Cheyyar and Killiyar Sub - Basin are the tributaries of the Palar Basin that rises in Kolar District of Karnataka state at an elevation of 900 Mtrs. and flows in southeastern direction entering Tamil Nadu Vaniyambadi through the District of Chittoor in Andrapradesh. It drains an area of about 13,470 Sq. K.M of which 10,880 Sq. K.M. is in Tamil Nadu.

Kiliyar River originates from the surplus of Maelpadi Tank of Vandavasi Taluk, of Thiruvannamalai District and empties in to Maduranthagam Tank after travelling 39 km. There after the river acts as surplus course of Maduranthagam Tank and confluences in to Palar river near ISUR village after travelling 13 km.

The command area of this sub – basin comes under the Cheyyar and Vandavasi Taluk in Thiruvannamalai and Uttermerur, Maduranthagam, and Seyyur Taluk in Kancheepuram Districts. The Salavedu Maduvu Originate from Vandavasi Taluk and confluences in to Kiliyur river upstream of Sempoondi Anicut and left am called Nelvoy Maduvu and confluences in to Maduranthagam Tank.
