Deviar River is a sister river of Mullai Periyar - a feeder of Vaigai River; both arise almost from the same place. Of the various hill streams that emerge out of the eastern slope of the Western Ghats the Pechilaru, Kombaiyaru, Rasasingaperiyar, Shunmuganadhi etc are worth mentioning tributaries of Deviar River.

Tanks in Deviar basin derive water from these tributaries of Deviar River, Deviar sub basin starts from the surplus course of Sengulam near a Hill west of Devipattinam and extends up to Paruvakkudi Tank in Sankarankovil block of Tirunelveli District and Thenkarai tank in Virudhunagar District
