The coastal saline Research Centre, Ramanathapuram is one of the Research stations of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. It was established in the Year 1991 as Agricultural Research station and then upgraded as Coastal Saline Research Centre. The KVK was intiated by the ICAR at Coastal Saline Research Centre in the year 2000. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra has been improved as fully funded ICAR KVK from April 4th 2004 onwards. One rice variety RMD ( R ) 1 has been released from this station ,which is highly suitable for coastal saline soils. Technologies viz., Seed cum fertilizer drill for direct sowing paddy and Groundnut, package of practices for chillies, pulses and other crops has been introduced for Ramanathapuram district.
